Adriana Guerrero-Nardone’s career has spanned work in social justice, youth development, community-based work, and education. They are certified in TEFL: Teaching English as a Foreign Language and have served in numerous schools abroad as an educator. They are currently the Executive Director of Salted Roots (formerly Brown Girl Surf), using community-based approaches and social justice to create community among minorities in the outdoors. Guerrero-Nardone is also on the Board of Directors at Camp Phoenix and is an Alpha Chi Omega Chapter Advisor at the University of California at Berkeley.

Early Life and Education: 

Adriana Guerrero-Nardone graduated in 2009 with a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University. In 2009, they earned their Teach English as a Foreign Language. (TEFL) Certification. In 2016, Guerrero-Nardone began a Master’s in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. Their capstone focused on fundraising for community organizations, entitled “Pivoting to Meet the Need: A Fundraising Blueprint for Community-Based Organizations,” which they completed in 2018.

Career: 

While in college, Guerrero-Nardone worked as a Site Supervisor and Activities Coordinator for America Reads from 2005 to 2009. They first served as a tutor before being promoted to lead tutor and then to Site Supervisor and Activities Coordinator. In this position, they organized educational activities for students and operated the afterschool homework program site, which included overseeing tutors and students. They moved to Cordóba, Spain, in 2009 to serve as an Auxiliar de Conversación. In this role, they planned and implemented English lessons for students grades one to six. They also organized activities to expose students to American culture. They held a similar role in Sevilla, co-teaching English classes and designing lesson plans. They became an English Teacher with English Zone Academy in Sevilla y Alrededores, Spain, in 2011, teaching weekly English classes for a range of levels and ages from beginner to intermediate and helping students prepare for exams, including the PET and First Certificate.

Guerrero-Nardone became the Education Coordinator for The Boys’ Club of New York in 2013, working on an educational curriculum to empower boys and young men. In 2016, they were contracted as an Education Manager for La Choza Chula. This organization works on locally-driven projects to ensure the educational and environmental development of El Paredón and neighboring communities in Guatemala. Upon returning to the U.S., they continued to educate as a 1st Grade Co-Teactheir at The Mission Preparatory School.

While in graduate school, Guerrero-Nardone worked with Alternatives in Action from 2016 to 2018, first as their Community Program Manager and starting in 2017 as their Development Coordinator. They helped contribute to the organization’s mission to inspire Bay Area youth to realize their leadership potential through programming, partnerships, and education.

After graduating with their master’s, they joined Outward Bound California as their Annual Fund Manager in 2018 before joining Salted Roots (formerly Brown Girl Surf) in 2020. Guerrero-Nardone started as their Associate Director before being promoted to Executive Director in 2021. In the role, they build on their previous experience in education, youth development, and social justice.

Outside of work, they have served on the leadership team for Women’s March Oakland. They also serve on the Board of Directors at Camp Phoenix and as the Alpha Chi Omega Chapter Advisor at the University of California at Berkeley.
