Lin Perez is an environmental data science professional and trained landscape architect currently working at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, where they are the Environmental Data Science Section Leader for the Delaware River Watershed Initiative (DRWI). Perez leads environmental data science programming, specializing in watershed modeling, geospatial analysis, database management, and Application Program Interface (API) development. They also chair the DRWU Technical User Group, a group of researchers, GIS professionals, data scientists, software developers, and modelers who guide technical products and research at the organization.

Early Life and Education: 

Lin Perez attended the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) for their undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology and graduate degree in Landscape Architecture.

Career: 

Perez is a trained landscape architect and previously worked for the City of Syracuse as a Bicycle Transportation Planning Intern, where they developed photosimulations for the city's Bike Master Plan and performed feasibility studies for future bike infrastructure using ArcGIS (2011 – 2012). Throughout graduate school, they worked as a SUNY ESF Research Assistant, specifically on the Onondaga Lake Restoration Project (2010 – 2013). As a Research Assistant, Perez researched international brownfield redevelopment, briefed public and corporate audiences on case studies, and worked on participatory design with stakeholders, including Honeywell. Perez currently works for The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. They started with The Academy as a Geographic Information Systems Manager in 2013 before being promoted to Software Developer in 2018. They are currently the Program Director and Environmental Data Science Section Lead of the Delaware River Watershed Initiative, where they lead mapping development to guide preservation and restoration in the Delaware River Watershed. Perez also serves on the Watershed Initiative's Technical User Group, a group of researchers, GIS professionals, data scientists, software developers, and modelers who guide technical products and research at the organization as Chair.

While at SUNY ESF, Perez was a Panasci Business Plan Competition Finalist at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, a United States Department of Agriculture Scholar, and a Robert G. Reimann Scholar. During graduate school, they were recognized for their work in landscape architecture with a Merit Award by the New York Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
