Eli Cabrera is a dedicated public servant known for his multifaceted career in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. His journey spans several key government roles, including budget officer, special assistant for management and budget, Speaker of the 17th House, Parks and Recreation director, and BECQ administrator. Cabrera's commitment to community service is deeply rooted in his family's legacy of public involvement and his upbringing in an environment that instilled a strong work ethic. He is steadfast in his mission to bolster the local economy, recognizing its pivotal role in enhancing community projects and services. Currently serving as the administrator for the Division of Environmental Quality at the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality (BECQ), he remains dedicated to the betterment of the Commonwealth by fostering sustainable natural resource management and a thriving economy.

Early Life and Education: 

Eli Cabrera’s early life was steeped in a culture of public service and environmental stewardship. Raised in a family with a rich history of community involvement, his father, Juan LG Cabrera, served as a member of the Marianas District Legislature. On his mother’s side, Eli Cabrera’s lineage is intertwined with Saipan’s mayoral history, with his uncle, Vicente “Kilili” Diaz Sablan, and cousin, Francisco Manibusan Diaz, holding esteemed mayoral positions. His upbringing instilled a strong sense of duty and a deep connection to the community.
Beyond his family’s legacy, Cabrera’s educational background prepared him for a career in public service. He pursued academic and professional pathways that equipped him with the skills and knowledge needed to address the diverse challenges of his homeland.

Career: 

Eli Cabrera's career in public service commenced with his role as a budget officer in the administration of Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio. This marked the beginning of his journey in governmental finance and management. His dedication and expertise led him to become the special assistant for management and budget, where he played a vital role in shaping financial policy.

His political journey further advanced when he became a member of the 17th House, eventually assuming the role of Speaker when Gov. Tenorio, who was then the Speaker, stepped down. Cabrera's leadership and commitment to effective governance were evident throughout this period.

Cabrera's dedication to the community extended beyond the legislative branch. In Gov. Eloy S. Inos' administration, he served as the director of Parks and Recreation. His leadership contributed to the development and management of public recreational facilities.

Appointed by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Cabrera took on the role of BECQ administrator, an essential position focused on environmental quality and coastal preservation. In this capacity, he is committed to the wise management of the Commonwealth's natural resources, aiming to support healthy communities, sustainable environmental practices, and a vibrant local economy. His collaborative approach involves working closely with government agencies, private partners, and the citizens of the Commonwealth to ensure a green and sustainable environment, aligning with the mission of the BECQ. Cabrera's vision for a thriving local economy remains a core element of his commitment to enhancing community projects and services, and he continues to work diligently towards this goal.
