Allison Chin
Dr. Allison Chin is currently the President of the Board of Directors at the Sierra Club. She is serving her fourth term and 11th year on the board and previously served on the Executive Committee as President, Treasurer, and officer. Dr. Chin has been on the board since 1999 and is a volunteer and member of the Sierra Club. Dr. Chin is now retired, but her technical training is in biology, specifically novel therapeutics. They also helped found the Green Leadership Trust, which is a network of minorities who serve on environmental boards.
Dr. Allison Chin attended the University of California at San Diego for her Bachelor’s in Arts in Biology and Chemistry. They received their Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology in 1987.
After receiving her Ph.D., Dr. Chin was a postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, working in molecular neurobiology. Dr. Chin stayed at the Stanford University School of Medicine as a Staff Scientist until 1995. In 1995, they joined the Geron Corporation as their Senior Director in the Preclinical division, looking at drug discovery, development, and research in telomerase biology for cancer and other age-related diseases. In their work, Dr. Chin led national and international multidisciplinary teams in developing new therapeutics. Dr. Chin retired in 2008 and has dedicated her time to nonprofit organization governance and leadership development.
A lifetime member of the Sierra Club, Dr. Chin joined the organization to protect public lands. They joined the board in 1999 and have contributed to outdoor leadership, organization effectiveness, and leadership development. In 2007, Dr. Chin was elected to serve on the Board of Directors at the Sierra Club. The following year, she was elected as President of the Board, and was re-elected in 2010. Dr. Chin has served as the President and treasurer of the Sierra Club Board of Directors.
Dr. Chin is a founding member of the Green Leadership Trust. In 2020, she joined Training for Change as a Member of their Board of Directors.
