Lashelle Johnson is an experienced environmental policy analyst dedicated to solving problems, environmental justice, and creating equitable policy. They are the State Equity Policy Director for the League of Conservation Voters, advancing equitable environmental policy nationwide. Johnson attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), receiving her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master’s in Public Administration.

Early Life and Education: 

Lashelle Johnson graduated high school in 2009 with two advanced diplomas, one from Salem High School in Drama/Theatre Arts and Stagecraft and the other from the Visual and Performing Arts Academy in Theater and Instrumental Performances. Johnson received their Bachelor of Arts in English at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2013. Johnson continued their career at VCU, receiving her Master’s Degree in 2017 in Public Administration. Johnson also participated in the Emerging Leaders Program at the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia in 2018.

Career: 

While at VCU, Johnson was an undergraduate teaching assistant and peer mentor. After completing her bachelor’s degree in 2013, Johnson was an Americorps VISTA Project coordinator at Tidewater Community College’s Center for Military and Veterans Education. After completing Americorps in 2014, they were hired as Program Coordinator for the center.

In 2016, while working on their master’s degree, Johnson was a Research Assistant and L. Douglas Wilder Graduate Scholar Fellow for the Center for Public Policy at VCU Wilder School. In 2017, she became a research analyst at the Wilder School. After graduating, Johnson became a Policy Analyst at the Virginia Department of Taxation. 

Since 2021, Johnson has worked at the League of Conservation Voters. She is the State Equity Policy Director drafting reports and resources to communicate with policymakers. Johnson has worked on reports such as the 2022 Clean Energy for All Report and Explaining the Affordable Clean Energy Plan.
